Quiana “Que” Broden’s spark for entrepreneurship began as early as age 5. She’d finally gotten her coveted play kitchen, and following her wishes, the adults let her replace the play food with an actual edible dinner.
Que describes her joy on her website: “It’s so vivid in my memory that I’m excited and antsy just talking about it. All I kept hearing my brain say was there’s real food on my plates! They let me do it!”
Food and family have been a huge influence on Que’s life, but her journey towards entrepreneurship came unexpectedly when she was diagnosed with a severe autoimmune disease as a young mother. Medicine seemed to only make her sicker, so she began exploring a plant-based lifestyle to heal.
“I wanted to eat to live. We can heal ourselves through food. WHY IS NOBODY TEACHING THIS. I vocalized it everywhere I went,” she explains.
Que knew she needed to share this with the world – and Cooking with Que was born. Originally a blog, she’s grown it into a thriving small business powerhouse where vegans and meat eaters coexist. Her mission is to teach people how to eat to live by introducing more plant-based meals into everyday lives.
Que keeps expanding, and is also the Executive Chef at The Kitchen by Cooking with Que, Detroit’s only demonstration kitchen and culinary shared space.
